California Homeless Education Technical Assistance Centers Training Series Course 2: Laws and Best Practices for LEA Liaisons
The second of three courses includes a twelve-module training that will provide professional development for newly designated LEA McKinney-Vento homeless liaisons on the essential laws and best practices for their role. Each module concludes with a short quiz, and there is a final quiz at the conclusion of all twelve modules. The modules include:
· Homeless education 101 for new liaisons
· Immediate enrollment advanced implementation
· School of origin and transportation
· Unaccompanied youth
· Young children experiencing homelessness
· Transitions to post-secondary education
· Partial credits and alternative diplomas
· Special education and homelessness
· Newcomer students and homelessness
· Privacy (FERPA) and homelessness
· Natural disasters and homelessness
· Community resources and collaboration
Participants will learn:
- The role of the LEA Homeless Liaisons for the McKinney-Vento Program
- An overview of what makes an effective McKinney-Vento Program
- Navigating the different best practices and requirements under the McKinney-Vento legislation
