Brief Intervention Training

Brief Intervention is a short-term counseling intervention that uses motivational interviewing, cognitive behavior therapy, and the stages-of-change model to meet the needs of adolescents who use alcohol and/or other drugs. Brief Intervention is a counseling type of intervention consisting of 2-4 sessions for adolescents who use alcohol and or other drugs. This training concerns a specific intervention approach developed by Dr. Ken Winters.

What you’ll learn:

  • Examine attitudes and relationships with teens

  • Teach adolescents how to take a more active and reflective role in decisions about their own behavior

  • Identify strategies that would support an adolescent-driven plan to make decisions they see as beneficial

  • Increase knowledge about drugs, alcohol, and tobacco use among teens
