Special Education Legal Basics
Special education law can feel complex, but every educator plays a role in protecting student rights and supporting compliant practices. This foundational session provides a practical overview of key legal principles under the IDEA, including Child Find, FAPE, LRE, procedural safeguards, and IEP implementation.
Participants will explore how these requirements apply to everyday decisions, documentation, communication, and collaboration with families. Through relatable examples, attendees will learn to recognize potential compliance concerns and determine when additional guidance may be needed, and will leave with a clearer understanding of their responsibilities and practical strategies for keeping students at the center of legally sound decision-making.
