Full program description
Purposeful Support: Understanding Paraeducator Roles and Responsibilities
Paraeducators are essential members of many educational teams, and their support is most effective when roles, expectations, and communication structures are clearly defined. This session examines appropriate paraeducator responsibilities related to instruction, behavior, student independence, confidentiality, data collection, and implementation of IEP supports. Participants will consider how teachers and administrators can provide effective direction, supervision, feedback, and opportunities for collaboration. The session will also address the importance of avoiding overdependence and using paraeducator support to increase—not unintentionally limit—student access, agency, and independence.
