Full program description
Strong Start: A Community of Practice for Supporting Dual Language Learners
With nearly 60 percent of children under the age of five residing in homes in which a language other than English is spoken, California’s increasingly diverse, multilingual population of young learners offers unique challenges and opportunities for educators across the state. The Strong Start Community of Practice (CoP) will bring together educators from LEAs and charter organizations in Los Angeles County to examine critical issues related to optimizing educational outcomes for Dual Language Learners/Multilingual TK students.
Member districts/charters will examine current programmatic information and data related to TK implementation for DLLs, share best practices, and engage in collaborative problem solving to consider practices that can lead to enhanced opportunities for Dual Language Learners.
The series includes 5 sessions. Virtual sessions are from 3 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. via Zoom, while in-person sessions are from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. @ LACOE
The Strong Start CoP is offered FREE of charge with support from EPICC EWIG funding.
