Recognize the States: Shape the Future
Exploring Stages of Genocide to Foster Student Agency and Strengthen School Communities
Recognize the Stages: Shape the Future is a dynamic professional learning series that empowers educators to recognize the patterns that can lead to division, dehumanization, and violence. Through immersive learning experiences at local museums and cultural centers, engaging discussions, and virtual case studies, participants will examine the Ten Stages of Genocide across historical and contemporary contexts and reflect on the shared human experiences that connect them. Educators will gain practical strategies to strengthen critical thinking, civic engagement, student agency and voice, while learning how to recognize patterns of exclusion and bias within their own school communities and create learning environments where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered. Join colleagues from across Los Angeles County for this unique opportunity to learn from history, inspire meaningful action, and help shape a more just future.
