Full program description

Street Data Institute

In this series, authors Dr. Jamila Dugan and Shane Safir break down street data fundamentals: what it is, how to gather it, and how it can complement other forms of data to guide your school or district’s equity journey. They will help you analyze traps and tropes that may be limiting the impact of your equity efforts, as well as concrete ways to climb out of those traps. They will also help you develop powerful Principles of Learning and a Street Data Action Plan. Join us for this dynamic workshop as Jamila and Shane help you shift your focus from satellite-level data to real-time, on-the-ground stories, experiences, and artifacts.

Participants will:

  • Engage in humanizing experiences to reflect on the past year and dream ahead
  • Feel inspired to reimagine how we teach and lead for equity in the coming year
  • Begin to shift epistemologies, or ways of knowing, to be more culturally sustaining
  • Identify potential traps and tropes that currently subvert their visions for equity
  • Design a Street Data mini-action plan that creates a container for designing solutions in partnership with students and adults at the margins
